Palm Sunday Artisan Fair in Uruapan 2018

The Palm Sunday Artisan Fair in Uruapan, is one of the most anticipated events of the year in Michoacan and for our guest at Hotel Mansión Iturbe. Artisans from different regions of the State participate in the event, where they can “strut their stuff” that they have been working on for months.

Using Route 14D, Uruapan is located a mere 60 kilometers (36 miles) from Pátzcuaro.

The Tianguis de Domingo de Ramos in Uruapan 2018, will be held from March 23 to April 8. The event is are held in the historic center, in three areas: la Plaza Mártires de Uruapan, la Plaza Morelos, and la Huatápera.

This is an excellent collection of Mexican folk art, where the Michoacán artisans put out their finest as part of the rich heritage and creativity of their communities.

It is expected that approximately 1,300 craftsmen from throughout the State will participate. Ethnic groups include Purhépecha, Mazahua, Nahua and Otomí. The Tianguis de Domingo de Ramos in Uruapan is one of the largest of its kind in Latin America.

You will find pieces of handicrafts made with different techniques. There’s a wide variety of pottery, handmade toys, handicrafts made with reeds, furniture craft, crafts in wood, hammered copper, masks, embroidery, textiles, art feather, corn stalk paste, musical instruments, and much more.

The main happenings during this event are:

·        10:00 a.m., Saturday, March 24:  Parade of Artisans through the principal streets of downtown Uruapan.

·        Sunday, March 25: 

o   68th Craft Competition.  Master craftsmen compete with their best pieces of folk art. Be sure to attend this event of “the best of the best.”

o   37th Michoacán Clothing and Dance Competition (takes place in La Huatapera).

o     Sample gastronomic Michoacana cuisine in the Plaza de la Ranita.

·        About 40 cultural events are scheduled where you can enjoy the music and Michoacán folklore.
